When was the last time you asked for what you want? I mean really, really want.
That thing that’s deep inside you. The thing you have never uttered a word to anyone about. the thing that keeps you awake at night.
For me, one of them is circumnavigating the world, travelling by ski and kite from the South Pole to a yacht, sailing up the Atlantic Ocean, through the Northwest Passage, down the Pacific Ocean and back to the South Pole by ski and kite.
It’s an epic dream. Why I want to do it, I don’t really know. But it is deep inside me. For years I didn’t tell anyone. Afraid someone would steal the idea and do it before me. Afraid I would be ridiculed. Afraid I could never pull it off.
And the truth is I can’t. Not alone, anyway.
But if I ask for help, there is NOTHING I cannot achieve. And the same goes for your big dream.
So often, these big dreams languish away in a ten year plan. Something I will get to when I’ve achieved x, y, or z. When I earn $xxx I’ll be able to. Once the kids are xx years old. Once this fight with my partner is over and we have finally achieved ‘happiness’, then I can focus on what I want.
But as long as your dream lives in the future, that’s exactly where it will stay.
The idea that I will ever be ‘READY’ to take on a new challenge and create something new is entirely false. No-one has ever been ‘ready’ to be a parent. To speak on stage. To present a pitch for investment. To embark on a big adventure.
We can be prepared, for sure, but part of preparation is making a declaration. THIS IS WHAT I WANT TO ACHIEVE. And then it is ASKING FOR THE HELP YOU NEED.
So I’m asking you a few things today.
1) Who can help me achieve my big adventure?
2) Who wants to teach me polar travel?
3) Who has a boat (in Vancouver preferably!) that they are excited to lend me so I can get the sailing experience I need?
4) Who do you know who would be excited to invest in this exciting, one-of-a-kind adventure that has never been done before?
5) How else can you help me make this dream a reality?
